We have two rapid weight loss programs, Medifast and HMR (Health Management Resources).
The Medifast program is a meal replacement program based on a very low calorie diet, approximately 900 calories a day. You eat 5 Medifast mini-meals a day, plus a primarily-protein dinner you prepare yourself.
There is a wide choice of mini-meals, and they are generally nutritionally equivalent, which means that you can interchange them without worrying about variations in nutritional value.
Expect to lose at lease 2 pounds a week on this program; most people lose significantly more.
We use HMR products as meal replacement. You can replace some or most of your weekly meals with the HMR products. To our patients, the shakes appear to be most useful, but other products and preparations are also very effective. We feel that the HMR shakes are tastier than those of other brands, and we know they are of excellent nutritional quality.
Weight loss depends on the number of meals you replace in a week (7-10 meals out of 21 meals a week is common), and how well you control you portion sizes when you are eating your regular meals.
Regardless of the program, we monitor your progress in as much detail as your general health and medical condition requires.
